I haven’t been near the Sunset Ranch in at least 65 years. Back then it didn’t have all that good a reputation. We had no contact with those folks. For riding, we would use the trail up Bronson/Brush canyon to the WPA constructed road along the ridge. Back along that road to the ridge above the stables. Down that ridge to Hollyridge and then east into the canyon where the girls camp is today. It was an entirely different world all those years ago.
I’ve attached a photo I took (about 65 years ago) in the saddle to the west of the W6XAO transmitter. Tommy Lee’s access road came up the Burbank side of the hill swung through the saddle and came out above and behind the sign. You can see Olive Avenue across the bottom. Lockheed Air Terminal (Bob Hope Airport) is visible dead center of the image. If you look carefully you can see the runway lights. The “box” to the left of that is the Valley steam plant. Hollingsworth Drive (now Forest Lawn Drive) is off camera along the bottom of the image.
Take care…………….Ray
